Punjab BJP leader Tarun Chugh on Tuesday met rapper Honey Singh and enlisted his support for a significant campaign aimed at curbing the state's drug menace.

Describing the rapper, whose real name is Hirdesh Singh, as a “son of Punjab” who can help inspire the young people of the state, Chugh said Honey Singh’s voice and personal journey could play a key role in steering young people away from addiction.

On his part, the "Brown Rang" rapper himself acknowledged the devastating impact of drugs on families and urged that “Punjab must be saved from this.”

“Punjab is going through a tough time, especially because of the drugs. Families are being destroyed, and young people are being destroyed. We were thinking of a way to get Punjab out of drugs. Sir has already done a lot of work on that. You have helped us a lot,” the rapper said in a video posted on X by Chugh's office.

“Drugs are ruining families and youth in Punjab. Punjab must be saved from this," he added.

During the interaction, the BJP leader praised his journey from struggle to stardom, calling it deeply inspirational. “Honey Singh is the son of Punjab. He has made his name known all over the world. He has a very inspiring life,” Chugh said.

Referring to the singer’s personal struggles and comeback, he added, “After being in bad company, that person does penance for eight years before coming out of that addiction. Then he returns and reaches the top again.”

Chugh said he had urged the singer to leverage his influence and music to steer Punjab’s younger population away from drugs.

“I have requested Honey Singh... with your voice, with your singing, with your words, to get the children of Punjab out of drugs,” he said.

Highlighting the severity of the crisis, Chugh remarked, “The river of drugs is eating away at the youth of Punjab like a tsunami.”

“If Honey Singh can come out of the drugs, then every child of Punjab can come out. If Honey Singh can come back, then children, you can also become Honey Singh.”

The BJP leader also appealed directly to Punjab’s youth to reject addiction and reconnect with the state’s spiritual and cultural roots.

The meeting comes just weeks after singer Mika Singh met Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria at Lok Bhavan in Chandigarh on May 2, where he was urged to support the state’s anti-drug campaign.

Mika Singh had later agreed to collaborate with the Chandigarh Administration for a mega cultural event aimed at promoting Punjabi language, culture and heritage while reinforcing efforts to combat drug abuse.
