US President Donald Trump was on Wednesday gifted a golden crown by South Korea.

After reaching for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) meetings on Wednesday, South Korean president Lee Jae Myung gifted the golden crown with aim to push through a deadlocked $350bn trade deal with the US.

Later Lee’s aide, Kim Yong-beom, said: “South Korea and the United States have reached an agreement on the details of the tariff negotiations."

“South Korea’s financial investment package for the United States, worth $350bn, consists of $200bn in cash investment and $150bn in shipbuilding cooperation," Kim said.

According to The Guardian, the crown was a replica of one from the ancient Silla kingdom, whose capital was Gyeongju. The original crown is on display at the Gyeongju National Museum.

Silla’s gold crowns depict a tree with branches spreading upwards, “signifying the king’s heavenly mandate," according to the museum.

The US President became the first American leader to receive the Grand Order of Mugunghwa, Korea’s highest decoration – named after the country’s national flower, a pink hibiscus known also as the Rose of Sharon in English.

According to CNN, the menu for Trump’s working lunch with Lee was a dessert of “Gold-adorned brownies and tangerines… served on a plate lettered with the word “PEACE" to “celebrate a golden era of the Korea-US alliance," Lee’s office said.

After receiving the gift, Trump said it was “very special". “I would like to wear it right now," he said.

CNN quoted Trump as saying that he would cherish the “beautiful" medal and t was a “great honor" to receive it and adding that US-South Korean relations would only get stronger.
