Southwest monsoon to advance into some more parts including Bengaluru during the next three days: IMD

With the southwest monsoon having advanced over coastal Karnataka and parts of south-interior Karnataka, India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday said the conditions are favourable for further advance of the monsoon into some more parts of the State, including Bengaluru, during the next three days.

“Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, some more parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai; Karnataka, including Bengaluru; some parts of Andhra Pradesh, remaining parts of Tamil Nadu, some more parts of west-central and north Bay of Bengal, and some more parts of northeastern States during next three days,” IMD, Bengaluru, said.

“Southwest monsoon has entered Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Belagavi, Dharwad, Haveri, Gadag, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, Mysuru, and Chamarajanagar districts,” IMD, Bengaluru, Director C.S. Patil said.

He added that many districts in coastal and south-interior and north-interior Karnataka are expected to receive widespread rainfall till May 29.

“Some parts of Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, and Kodagu will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall and as a result of this, a red alert has been issued in these districts till Tuesday, May 27. Likewise, an orange alert has been issued for Belagavi and Dharwad districts till Tuesday, May 27, a yellow alert has been issued for Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Gadag, Haveri, Bidar, Kalaburagi, and Yadgir districts till May 27,” Mr. Patil said.
