The southwest monsoon has officially withdrawn from Telangana on Thursday, October 16, marking the end of this year’s monsoon season, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Speaking to The Hindu, Dharma Raju, Scientist at IMD Centre Hyderabad confirmed that the withdrawal process, which began earlier this month, is now complete. “With the retreat of the southwest monsoon, northeasterly winds are expected to dominate weather patterns over the coming weeks. “Tamil Nadu and Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh will begin to receive northeast monsoon rains as the wind direction changes,” he added.
Talking about the impact on Telangana, Mr. Raju said that while the State will not directly experience northeast monsoon, some rainfall could occur in southern districts due to their proximity to Andhra Pradesh.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a thunderstorm forecast in 12 Telangana districts for Friday, October 17. According to IMDs latest bulletin, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty winds are very likely to occur at isolated places in Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhongir, Sangareddy, Medak and Kamareddy districts.
Hyderabad and its surrounding areas for the next 24 hours will see partly cloudy sky. “Mist or hazy conditions are very likely to prevail during morning hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 32 and 19 respectively,” the bulletin said.
