Belagavi: SP K Ramarajan has urged women to report incidents of harassment, sexual abuse and other offences without fear, assuring that their identity will remain confidential through the police department’s ‘KPS’ mobile application.Noting that many hesitate to lodge complaints due to concerns over jobs, family pressures and social stigma, Ramarajan said silence often allows offenders to go unchecked. He emphasised that police are committed to ensuring a safe environment and that action can be initiated even if complainants choose to remain anonymous. In a video message shared on social media, the SP encouraged women to use the KPS app to report crimes.
He said not only victims, but also citizens who witness offences against women can file complaints through the platform. All complaints, he added, will be treated seriously and handled with confidentiality.Ramarajan said he would personally review complaints received from across the district and issue directions to the concerned police stations for prompt action. This, he said, would help ensure that no complaint goes unattended.
Incidents of harassment in workplaces, during travel and in public spaces often create fear among women. In this context, he underlined the need to report such incidents rather than remain silent. The KPS app allows users to file complaints by entering details of the incident and choosing the ‘Keep Me Anonymous’ option to protect their identity. He added that technology was being used to make reporting easier and more accessible for women.
