Superintendent of Police V. Ratna on Wednesday called on the girl students to strictly avoid distractions of social media and completely focus on their studies and excel in their fields of interest.

Launching a special awareness programme on the Shakti App and Eagle Clubs at the ZP Girls High School in Kothacheruvu of Sri Sathya Sai district, the SP cautioned against the dangers of fascination at a tender age, immature love, child marriage and drug abuse.

Ms. Ratna said that addiction to narcotics held the potential to turn the victims to develop criminal behaviour, which soon would ruin their careers and lives. She urged the students to use the Shakti WhatsApp helpline (7993485111) or the toll-free number 1972 to immediately bring to the notice of the police the threats faced.

The SP said that in commemoration of International Day Against Drug Abuse, the police will hold rallies and awareness programmes across the district on Thursday.

Ms. Ratna urged the students in the age group of 14 years and above to be vigilant to negative influences, and consider making positive contributions to society.

The SP had a word of appreciation for the students in recognition of their large-scale participation in the awareness campaign and announced incentives for those who actively engage in the events.

Senior police officers from the Puttaparthi division, representatives of various private schools, and government teachers, parents, and students took part in the initiative.
