Oscar Piastri is unstoppable and virtually out of anyone’s reach, as he managed to win his fifth race of the season at the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday. He has mastered many circuits and triumphed in the hot and dry conditions at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
A close second was the usual suspect—his McLaren teammate, Lando Norris. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was in contention for a podium finish, but it was Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc who eventually took third place.
All that happened at the Spanish Grand Prix final
Max Verstappen had strong chances of finishing on the podium, but a collision with Mercedes driver George Russell cost him dearly. The Red Bull driver was handed a 10-second time penalty, dropping him from fifth to P10 just seconds before the finish line.
On the other hand, Russell ended in fourth position. Talking about Verstappen and his own win, Piastri said, "It was a bit of a surprise to see Max try and three-stop and it nearly worked for him. But it was a great weekend, the pace was good and just really proud. A much better bounce back from Monaco. A superb weekend. Hard to complain, it has been a great year and this weekend has been exactly the kind of weekend I've been looking for.
It is a lot of fun winning races at the moment.
"Interestingly, Kick Sauber driver Nico Hulkenberg finished fifth in the race as he moved a position up after Verstappen’s penalty. Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton stood in sixth position. The race ended early for Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli after he veered into the gravel. As many wondered what went wrong, Jolyon Palmer, former F1 driver, said on Formula 1’s portal, “Absolutely nothing there for Antonelli.
Total switch off of the car. Engine goes bang and off he goes – almost locked the rears as it seized up at the back. So that’s Antonelli out and you can see the frustration from Toto Wolff as that happened.
Tough day for Mercedes once again.”Williams driver Alex Albon and Racing Bulls’ Liam Lawson were involved in a collision, and soon after, debris from Albon’s front wing endplate was seen on the track. Albon was handed a 10-second time penalty for the incident and went into the pit lane to serve it before eventually retiring from the race. Also Read: Spanish Grand Prix 2025 Qualifying results: Oscar Piastri tops, Lando Norris joins him in number 2 spot on podium, Max Verstappen finishes thirdRacing in front of his home crowd, Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso took an unusual turn and drove straight into the gravel, losing precious time.
