Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar suggested that each Assembly should fix a mandatory minimum number of sitting days every year, and orientation and training programmes must be held for new members.

Addressing the 11th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region Conference being held in Bengaluru on Saturday, Mr. Prasad said a clear code of discipline should be framed to maintain order in the House. He also batted for inter-legislature cooperation to enhance for exchange of best practices.

Highlighting Telangana’s initiatives, the Speaker noted that the Telangana Legislative Assembly has been at the forefront in providing adequate time and encouragement to members to raise public issues. Training sessions have been conducted for new legislators to help them understand legislative procedures and utilise their allotted time effectively.

Stressing the importance of transparency, he said live telecasting of Assembly sessions has significantly enhanced public confidence. He pointed out that several Assembly sessions in Telangana have continued until midnight, a sign of the House’s commitment to discussing public issues at length.

Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy, Deputy Chairman Banda Prakash Mudiraj, Legislative Secretary Dr. V. Narasimha Charyulu, and senior officials have also participated.
