In Coimbatore, a tragic incident occurred on Vilankurichi Road when a speeding car struck a herd of sheep, resulting in the immediate deaths of 12 sheep and two dogs.
COIMBATORE: A speeding car collided with a herd of sheep, resulting in the deaths of 12 sheep and two dogs. Ten sheep sustained injuries, and a shepherd also sustained injuries in the mishap.
The incident occurred on the Vilankurichi Road at Kalaivani Nagar in Coimbatore city around 3 am on Friday. The driver of the car did not stop and managed to escape from the scene. The Traffic Investigation Wing of the Coimbatore city police formed a team to apprehend the car driver.P Subramaniam, 47, from Pappampatti in Coimbatore district, was rearing 500 sheep at Pappampatti. Ravi, 60, a native of Neikkaranpatti near Palani in Dindigul district, was working under Subramaniam.
Ravi and four others took the sheep to Athipalayam from Pappampatti for grazing. When they were walking on Vilankurichi Road at Kalaivani Nagar, a speeding car hit the herd of sheep around 3 am on Friday. Twelve sheep and two dogs died on the spot, and another 10 sheep sustained severe injuries.The car also badly hit the shepherd Ravi. The car driver did not stop the vehicle and managed to escape. Other motorists alerted the police, who rushed to the spot and sent the injured Ravi to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for treatment.
The dead sheep were kept along the roadside, and the injured sheep were sent to a nearby veterinary hospital for treatment. The Traffic Investigation Wing (TIW-East) of the Coimbatore city police launched a search to nab the car driver. Further investigation is on.
