The Centre for Science in Society (C-SiS) at Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) has launched ‘SphereVerse’, a new scientific innovation facility.
It also includes a virtual lab that enables viewers to experience the wonders of science through virtual reality. Starting with geography and astronomy, the SphereVerse visually projects topics such as latitude and longitude, complex weather patterns, atmospheric structures, and environmental changes of the Earth in a spherical display. It offers an engaging and educational visual experience that sparks both curiosity and learning, said a release issued here.
Comparable to the globally acclaimed Science on a Sphere (SoS) technology developed by the US agency NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), the SphereVerse brings world-class scientific visualisation to India. Used at leading science centres and museums across the globe, SoS displays climate data and planetary movements on a large globe. Through this innovation, Cusat has recreated a global-standard science exhibition facility in India, aimed at nurturing scientific awareness and curiosity among students and the public. The facility will be accessible to children participating in C-SiS’s science interaction and vacation programmes, the release said.
Industries Minister P. Rajeeve inaugurated the programme. Vice-Chancellor M. Junaid Bushiri presided.
