Bicholim: Bicholim Municipal Council (BMC) has designated a special parking area behind the Bicholim market for the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi. BMC chairperson Vijayakumar Natekar said this has been done to avoid traffic congestion on the main road during the peak hours of the festival.Natekar said people using cars during festival shopping should park their vehicles in this space, as it can accommodate large numbers of vehicles. He said people should avoid haphazard parking, causing inconvenience. Police will be deployed at the entrance point to direct motorists inside the market for parking, and constables will be deployed at no-entry points to prevent violations that could lead to accidents and traffic congestion.Meanwhile, Bicholim locals have urged BMC authorities to clean the clogged gutters in the Bicholim market area to get rid of the foul smell. Many gutters in the Bicholim market area have been choked up and overflowing on the road, causing inconvenience to shoppers and shopkeepers due to the gutter stench. “I visit the market daily for household items, but the stench near the entrance where pipes are laid makes me feel like vomiting. I urge the BMC authorities to look into the matter and clean them before the Ganesh Chaturthi,” said Amardeep Govekar, a local.Natekar said the gutter-cleaning work will be undertaken as soon as possible.
