Clinching your first win in months and still languishing in the relegation zone — it couldn’t possibly get any worse for Spurs, can it?

Oh well, it just did.

Dutch midfielder Xavi Simons has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury, dealing a major blow to their survival hopes.

Season Over, World Cup Dream Gone

Simons suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Wolves — their first win in 16 league games — on Saturday.

The 23-year-old twisted his knee while chasing a ball near the byline and was stretchered off in the 63rd minute at Molineux.

The diagnosis not only ends his club campaign but also rules him out of representing Netherlands at the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

Simons later shared an emotional message on social media.

“They say life can be cruel and today it feels that way," he wrote.

“My season has come to an abrupt end and I’m just trying to process it. Honestly, I’m heartbroken. None of it makes sense. All I’ve wanted to do is fight for my team, and now the ability to do that has been snatched away from me, along with the World Cup."

“I will walk this path with strength and conviction, counting the days until I can return to the pitch."

A Blow to De Zerbi’s Plans

New Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi surely would have looked to rely on Simons’ creativity in midfield as the club fights to stay in the Premier League.

Despite the win over Wolves, Tottenham remain 18th in the table, two points behind West Ham United in 17th.

With just four games left, the margin for error is gone.
