District Collector Swapnil Dinakar Pundkar on Friday (September 05, 2025) said that the district has adequate quantity of fertilizers available and there was no dearth of urea and other fertilisers in any mandal of the district. He said that 24,421 metric tonnes of urea had been supplied and 1,070 tonnes were readily available for further distribution.
Speaking to media here, he said that Coromandel company would send 900 metric tonnes of urea very soon to the district to meet its agriculture needs in the kharif season.
Due to incessant rains, agriculture activity has picked up in the district and sowing has been done in 4.07 lakh acres so far. There was no much demand for urea in the months of June and July due to the deficit rainfall in those months. However, the demand from farmers had gone up steeply from August onwards. The district administration has been supplying the fertilizers through Rythu Seva Kendras, cooperative societies and private dealers.
Mr. Dinakar made it clear that the government would take stern action and cancel licenses of private dealers if they were selling urea at higher rate than that of fixed by the government. He directed agriculture and marketing officials to inspect storage points and verify the stock position regularly to prevent malpractices in sale of fertilizers.
