The authorities of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit (SSUS) on Friday (July 18) agreed to make some relaxations in the disciplinary rules imposed on the main campus at Kalady following talks with students protesting against them.
A meeting attended by representatives of the Syndicate and the agitating students decided to relax the entry timings into the hostels. The hostel entry time for undergraduate students will be 7.30 p.m. However, those who required to venture outside can record their names in the movement register. They will be permitted to remain outside up to 9.30 p.m.
The hostel entry timing for postgraduate students will be 9.30 p.m. But they will be provided extra time in connection with the various programmes held on the campus. Researchers will be permitted to use the reading room even after 11 p.m. They need to enter their names in the register kept at hostels and reading room after 11 p.m.
Students will be permitted to leave the campus for medical requirements, part-time jobs, and other emergency events after obtaining special permission. The main gate of the campus will be closed by 11 p.m.
K.S. Arunkumar, Syndicate member and convener of the sub-committee that recommended disciplinary measures, said in a communication that the issues raised by the students had been resolved. A meeting will be convened on July 23 to discuss issues faced by researchers on the campus. He said steps would be taken to implement the heritage tourism project on the main campus.
