Belagavi: Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman, Bishop Simiao Purificacao Fernandes, called upon the faithful to emulate the virtues of St Anthony of Padua by serving humanity with humility, compassion and selflessness.
Delivering the homily at the annual feast at St Anthony’s Church, Camp, on Friday, the Bishop said St Anthony was not just a renowned preacher and miracle worker but also a humble servant dedicated to uplifting the poor, comforting the distressed, reconciling broken relationships and protecting the vulnerable. Presiding over the solemn Feast Mass, he noted that the saint’s deep love for God was reflected in his service to humanity. He said in a world marked by indifference and division, St Anthony’s life reminds people that true holiness lies in compassion, kindness and concern for others. He urged the faithful to draw inspiration from the saint’s life and serve society with humility and love. The feast saw a large turnout of devotees from Belagavi, Goa and Maharashtra. Special prayers, novenas and petitions marked the occasion. Parish priest Fr Vijay Mendith, along with several priests and members of the Christian community, participated.
