Stabbed, head banged against wall: Kannada actor Shruthi attacked by husband

A Kannada television actor, Shruthi, in Bengaluru was attacked by her estranged husband over alleged domestic and financial disputes. The accused reportedly sprayed pepper spray on Shruthi, stabbed her in the ribs, thigh, and neck and banged her head against a wall.

The incident took place on July 4. Manjula, also known as Shruthi, an actor and a private channel anchor, was attacked by her estranged husband Ambarish, who is reportedly an auto driver.

Shruthi, known for her roles in popular serials like Amruthadhaare, had been living separately from Ambarish after differences arose in their relationship. The couple, married for over 20 years with two children, had been living on lease in Hanumanthanagar before Shruthi moved to her brother’s house in April due to marital discord.

According to police sources, there had also been disputes over financial matters, particularly concerning lease money and Shruthi had previously filed a complaint against Ambarish.

On July 3, the couple allegedly reconciled and decided to live together again. However, in a shocking turn of events, Ambarish allegedly attempted to kill her the very next day.

After their children left for college, he reportedly sprayed pepper spray on Shruthi, stabbed her in the ribs, thigh, and neck and banged her head against a wall.

Preliminary investigations suggest the motive behind the attack was related to domestic and financial issues.

Bengaluru West Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Girish confirmed the case and said that two cases were registered involving a dispute between the couple.

"Ambarish is reportedly an auto driver and Manjula is a television actor. The couple got married 20 years ago and have two children. However, they frequently had domestic disputes. Around three months ago, a case related to their quarrels was registered at the same police station. Later, their relatives intervened and helped them reconcile. The couple had been residing in a house in Srinagar. Last week, another altercation broke out, during which Ambarish stabbed Manjula," DCP Girish said.

Shruthi is undergoing treatment for her injuries while Ambarish has been arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
