Addressing a gathering of the Tamil diaspora in London, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, who is on an official visit to the United Kingdom, urged them to remain united and march ahead on the path of development. Mr. Stalin concluded his visits to Germany and the U.K. and is scheduled to return to Chennai on September 8.

Calling upon the diaspora to ensure quality education for their children and provide them opportunities to showcase their skills, the Chief Minister said, “The next generation of Tamils should reach even greater heights than us. At the same time, we should also help fellow Tamils.” The Tamil diaspora had proved that Tamils were intelligent and hardworking, he added.

Highlighting Tamil Nadu’s strengths, Mr. Stalin said best-in-class infrastructure, talented youth, and peace and stability had enabled the State to attract investments. He described the Tamil diaspora living abroad as “unofficial ambassadors” of Tamil Nadu. Hailing their role, he said attempts to harm the Tamil language would not succeed.

The Chief Minister reiterated his request to the diaspora to visit Tamil Nadu at least once a year. He listed the measures taken by his government to showcase the State’s cultural legacy through various institutions.

“Not only the old glory but you could teach your children about the pains and sufferings undergone to reach the position today. We need unity among the Tamils. This community should always march ahead in the path to development. With this objective, we are leading a Dravidian model of governance to implement several welfare programmes,” he said at the Maaperum Tamil Kanavu event.

Insisting on unity among Tamils, Mr. Stalin said, “We should forget whatever would divide us. We should think about whatever that would bind us. We should never forget our Tamil identity.”
