Minister for Tourism and Public Works P.A. Mohamed Riyas has said that the State government is on a mission to create a new Kozhikode through innovative projects like the ‘Canal City’.

Inaugurating the ‘Vikasana Sadassu’ of the Kozhikode Corporation at New Palayam Market in the city on Sunday (October 26, 2025), the Minister appreciated the efforts of the Corporation in giving equal importance to welfare and developmental projects. He said that the Vikasana Sadassu, held across the State in most local bodies, reflected the massive changes that had taken place in the State recently.

The event, chaired by Mayor Beena Philip, included a video presentation of the achievements of the State government and the Corporation, a report presentation, and the release of the Corporation’s progress report. Those who donated land for developmental activities were honoured on the occasion. These included setting up a playground in Kottooli, teaching hygiene to students from the pre-primary level, creating a facility under the Corporation to care for and accommodate elderly persons, projects to promote proper exercise for citizens, measures to control the multiplication of street dogs, awareness campaigns to prevent garbage dumping in public places, and initiatives to convert Kozhikode into a carbon-neutral city.
