State moves HC against Governor’s notifications on VC appointment in CU

The State government has submitted a plea before the Kerala High Court seeking to quash notifications issued by the Governor, in his capacity as Chancellor of the University of Calicut, inviting applications to the post of Vice-Chancellor of the university.

It also challenged a recent notification that constituted a search-cum-selection committee to appoint a VC. The State contended that the constitution of the committee was not as per university statutes and UGC norms. As per the norms, members of search-cum-selection committee must not be connected in any manner with the university and its affiliated colleges. This had not been adhered to, it said.

The petition was adjourned for hearing to Monday, at the request of the Chancellor.
