The State government is taking various steps to increase milk production in Tamil Nadu, Minister for Milk and Dairy Development T. Mano Thangaraj said here on Monday.
The Dairy Development Department has been taking steps to ensure distribution of healthy milk to the general public and providing welfare assistance to dairy farmers, Mr. Mano Thangaraj said after visiting the Pudukottai District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd. (Aavin) here.
The Minister said the Pudukottai District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd. had been playing a key role in the development of village economy. A total number of 399 dairy farrmers’ cooperative societies had been registered in Pudukottai district and 326 societies were functioning. Milk was being procured every day and being distributed all over the district, he added.
New plant
Earlier, Mr. Mano Thangaraj along with the Minister for Backward Classes Welfare Siva V. Meyyanathan unveiled the foundation for the construction of a milk chilling plant at a cost of ₹24 lakh at Kottaikaadu panchayat in Karambakudi panchayat union besides distributing milk cans to the beneficiaries of dairy farmers’ cooperative societies in Karambakudi and Thiruvarankulam taluks.
Later, he held a review meeting at the Collectorate in which District Collector M. Aruna, Aavin officials, secretaries of milk producers cooperative societies and local body representatives participated, an official release said.
