Andhra Pradesh Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana on Tuesday lashed out at the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders, asking them to “stop crying foul over Amaravati and desist from spreading false propaganda that the capital region has been submerged.”
Visiting the areas around Kondaveeti Vagu, where floodwater stagnated after the recent rains, Mr. Narayana said the problem had arisen due to soil deposits left unattended during the construction of a bridge on the Vijayawada West Bypass (E-11 road) by the NHAI authorities.
“Because the soil obstructed the flow, water accumulated in the fields of only two villages. In the rest of the villages, the water drained out within a few hours of rainfall,” the Minister said.
Mr. Narayana, accompanied by CMD of the Amaravati Development Corporation D. Lakshmi Parthasarathy, directed the officials on the spot to clear the deposited soil using poclains and cut minor trenches along the highway to ensure free flow of water. He said the desilting works were progressing swiftly.
Taking a swipe at the YSRCP leaders, Mr. Narayana asked, “If water collects in the construction pits during rain, does that mean the iconic buildings of Amaravati are sinking? Will the people tolerate such baseless propaganda?”
Stating that people would not accept false campaigns. he said, “The YSRCP’s existing 11 Assembly seats will be at stake if its leaders persist with such narratives.”
The Minister reiterated that construction works in Amaravati were on track, with the quarters for officials and employees scheduled for completion by March next. “Amaravati will continue to progress, no matter what some may say. Those spreading rumours should visit and see the reality for themselves,” the Minister advised.
