Donald Trump has again claimed he mediated between India and Pakistan and stopped the war between the two countries through a trade deal.

While speaking to reporters as he hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Monday (local time), the US President claimed he told India and Pakistan he would not deal for trade with the countries if the war was not stopped.

“We stopped a lot of fights, I think a very big one frankly. A very, very big one was India and Pakistan, and we stopped that over trade," Trump said.

“We are dealing with India, we’re dealing with Pakistan. We said that we are not going to be dealing with you at all if you are gonna fight. They were maybe at a nuclear stage, they both, you know, nuclear powers. And I think stopping that was really important," he added.

Trump’s claim came as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that he had sent a letter to the Nobel Prize Committee nominating the US President for the Nobel Peace Prize.

He personally handed a copy of the nomination letter to Trump during their dinner at the White House.

“The President has already realised great opportunities. He forged the Abraham Accords. He’s forging peace as we speak in one country, in one region after the other. So, I want to present to you, Mr. President, the letter I sent to the Nobel Prize Committee. It’s nominating you for the Peace Prize, which is well deserved, and you should get it," Netanyahu said while presenting the nomination letter to Trump.

After receiving the letter, Trump thanked Netanyahu and said that he was not aware of it.

“Thank you very much. This I did not know. Wow, thank you very much. Coming from you in particular, this is very meaningful," Trump said.

Donald Trump has time and again claimed he stopped the four-day conflict between India and Pakistan, even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi told him in a phone call on June 18 that India neither requested mediation nor discussed trade with the US in the context of its recent ‘Operation Sindoor’.

The talks regarding halting military action took place directly between India and Pakistan, through existing channels between the two militaries, and that too at Pakistan’s own request, PM Modi told Trump.

Prime Minister Modi also firmly stated that India has never accepted mediation, does not accept it, and will never accept it.
