A parent has alleged that his son, a Class IX student, was made to stand outside the classroom for several hours by a private school in Adoor for an ‘inappropriate’ haircut on Monday, the school reopening day. The incident occurred at Holy Angels School at Adoor, Pathanamthitta. The complaint was later withdrawn.
According to school Principal Fr. Shantan Charuvil, the student’s haircut violated the school’s code of conduct. “Students who do not follow the prescribed guidelines are called to the office and their parents are informed. As an unaided school, maintaining discipline is part of our policy,” he said.
The boy’s father, however, said the matter has been resolved after school authorities promised him that such an incident would not recur.
The issue came to light when the parent returned in the afternoon to pick up his son and found that the boy had not been allowed into the class all morning. He then told the school authorities that complaints would be lodged with the Human Rights Commission and the Child Welfare Committee.
