An inquiry conducted by the State Education department in connection with the suicide of a Class IX student of St. Dominic’s Convent English Medium School, Sreekrishnapuram, has found lapses on the part of the school management.
The inquiry revealed that the school had segregated its students based on their marks, which is against the rules. The student who took her own life had been placed in a particular division based on her marks.
The girl reportedly committed suicide on the day she was transferred to a different class based on her academic performance.
The inquiry found that the school had allegedly obtained a consent letter from the parents of the student in question for placing her in the class based on her marks.
The 14-year-old girl was found dead on June 23, sparking a controversy over the alleged role of her teachers in the death. Her parents alleged that the girl ender her life out of pressure from the school.
Local people and student groups launched a protest against the school. The management, meanwhile, ousted three teachers.
