Students of two government schools in Andhra Pradesh, who have demonstrated exceptional innovation in the School Innovation Marathon (SIM) 2024–25 conducted under the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) of NITI Aayog, have been selected as special guests for the 77th Republic Day celebrations in Delhi.

Ippili Sanjana, a student from Srikakulam district, has received a personal invitation to attend the special tea reception to be hosted by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 26.

Ms. Sanjana and her team from the Zilla Parishad High School, at Ippili in Srikakulam district, developed a dual axis solar tracking electrical system with solar panels that automatically rotate by tracking sunlight to improve efficiency.

Her project has been shortlisted among the top 485 best ideas from the thousands of ideas submitted from across the country.

Ms. Sanjana credits her success to the support of her biology teacher Umamaheshwari Suvvari, fellow teachers, and her parents.

Similarly, an AI-based model designed to detect cancerous lumps at an early stage and help save women’s lives by Davu Sneha and Kaki Soumya from SMK Zilla Parishad High School at Movva in Krishna district, secured 704th rank at the national level for its socially relevant theme.

The two girls have attributed their achievement to the training and guidance provided by their teacher Mohammed Zakir Ahmed.

State’s distinction

Samagra Shiksha State Project Director B. Srinivasa Rao has informed that Andhra Pradesh has secured second place nationally in the School Innovation Marathon.

“A total of 61,027 students, drawn from 5,443 schools, actively participated and submitted 8,748 innovative ideas. Of the top 1,000 projects selected at the national level, 57 were from Andhra Pradesh alone,” he said.

Mr. Rao said the Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs) were playing a crucial role in nurturing the hidden creativity of the students across the State, and with the support of the UNICEF, the State was able to further strengthen its innovation ecosystem, paving the way for many more remarkable student innovations in the future.
