Suburban trains to be short-terminated at Singaperumal Koil from 9.30am to 1pm on Friday

CHENNAI: Those heading from Chennai to Chengalpet or beyond on Friday morning will need to get off at Singaperumal Koil and wait for alternative trains or buses, as Southern Railway has announced a block on the Egmore–Villupuram line between 9.30 am and 1 pm due to engineering work at the Singaperumal Koil yard.Several peak and mid-morning EMU trains between Chennai Beach and Chengalpet will not go past Singaperumal Koil, affecting regular office and college-bound commuters. Trains like 40521 (8.31 am), 40523 (9.02 am), 40525 (9.31 am), 40527 (9.51 am), and 40529 (10.56 am) from Chennai Beach will run only up to Singaperumal Koil. Likewise, the 9.30 am EMU from Kancheepuram to Chennai Beach will halt before it reaches Chennai.

From the Chengalpet end, the disruption is sharper. Six trains from Chengalpet between 9.55 am and 1.10 pm -- including the popular 42501 (to Gummidipundi) and trains numbered 40530 to 40538 -- stand fully cancelled, with no service for commuters starting from the far southern end of the corridor during the block period. To partly bridge the gap, Southern Railway will operate seven special passenger trains on Friday. These include four specials from Singaperumal Koil to Chennai Beach between 10.06 am and 1.23 pm, and two services from Chengalpet at 11.30 am and noon respectively.
