The All India Football Federation on Thursday said that they haven’t yet considered filing a petition to the Supreme Court to resolve the MRA between them and the FSDL, as the wait continues for the Indian Super League, which was supposed to begin next month.

The ISL, the country’s premier football league, has been put on hold since the SC asked the federation not to enter into any agreements before a final judgment is delivered on the constitution.

The current MRA (Master Rights Agreement), which grants FSDL (Football Sports Development Limited) the rights to commercialise and manage Indian football, is set to expire on December 8, 2025. Without a new contract, the tournament can’t begin.

Asked if the federation is considering filing a petition to the SC, an AIFF official told News18 Sports, “Not immediately. The judgment can come any day."

After a meeting between the AIFF and the ISL clubs, it was decided that the Super Cup will be held before the ISL, expectedly mid-September.

“Super Cup was scheduled at the end of the season, but due to the situation, we might reschedule the Super Cup before ISL so that clubs can stay within competition," AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey told the media.

“We all want the judgment to come at the earliest. We are waiting for it. It’s the Supreme Court, we can’t ask them for a judgment," Vice-President NA Haris said.

The president said that the Super Cup is anticipated to start in the second or third week of September.

The winner of the Super Cup will bag a spot in the AFC Champions League Two prelims. Since several teams haven’t started their pre-seasons yet, the AIFF will decide on a date for the Super Cup after 7-10 days, once all clubs roll the ball.

Multiple franchises, including Bengaluru FC, Chennaiyin FC and Odisha FC, have suspended operations.

“The club decides to pay their players or staff. We can’t intervene, that’s how all top leagues operate," Chaubey added.
