The Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco) recorded historic and unprecedented sales during the ongoing Onam season, Food and Civil Supplies Minister G.R. Anil has said.
Addressing the media here on Monday (September 1, 2025), Mr. Anil said that the State-run agency’s performance during the festive period has exceeded all expectations, both in terms of public participation and sales volume. Sales through Supplyco outlets reached ₹307 crore by August 31, far surpassing last year’s Onam sales of ₹183 crore and this year’s initial target of ₹300 crore. Supplyco had recorded total sales of ₹168 crore in July.
Moreover, the month of August saw a surge in consumer footfall. On August 27, Supplyco registered what was then the highest single-day sale in its history at ₹15.7 crore. That record was broken just two days later when sales hit ₹17.91 crore on August 29, only to be topped once more on August 30 with ₹19.4 crore in a single day, the Minister said.
Over 45.4 lakh consumers visited Supplyco outlets during August, indicating that more than 2 crore people across the State directly or indirectly benefited from the government’s market intervention measures this festive season.
The statistics, Mr. Anil emphasised, are a reflection of public confidence in Supplyco and, in general, the government’s public distribution system. He added that the ongoing market intervention has positively influenced market behaviour, protected consumers from inflation and ensured food security.
