A Supreme Court-appointed committee monitoring the probe into the Karur stampede was likely to visit the incident spot in the first week of December, sources told India Today.
The panel, headed by former Supreme Court judge Ajay Rastogi, had begun its initial paperwork and chalked out its plan for the visit.
According to sources, the chairman and other members of the committee also held a meeting with the investigators and handed them a note outlining several aspects in which the probe should be conducted, apart from the usual facts.
Officials familiar with the matter said the committee was keeping a close watch on the investigation being carried out by the CBI in connection with the tragedy. They added that the on-ground visit by the panel was expected to take place in the first week of December.
The stampede occurred on 27 September 2025 during a rally by actor-politician Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), in the Karur district of Tamil Nadu, and claimed 41 lives.
The CBI earlier visited the TVK headquarters in Chennai, seeking CCTV footage and participant details linked to the rally. CBI officers have been using advanced 3D laser scanning technology to measure and map the site to understand what transpired on the day of the stampede.
