Former BJP State president K. Surendran has alleged that the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] leadership in Kerala has become an “underworld gang” by sourcing hundreds of crores of illegal money through dubious companies registered abroad.

He told the media here on Sunday (August 17) that the money had been transferred to them in the course of the Loka Kerala Sabha organised by the government and during the foreign trips undertaken by various ministers in the State Cabinet. On a purported confidential complaint to the party national general secretary, Mr. Surendran claimed that many party leaders were found to have been involved in financial deals brokered by a U.K.-based businessman from the State. He said that huge amounts of money had been transferred in violation of foreign exchange laws.

Mr. Surendran also sought a comprehensive probe into the relations between the controversial businessman and CPI(M) leaders.
