Survey of Devadasis, sexual minorities on September 15

The Karnataka government has decided to conduct surveys of sexual minorities and Devadasi women from September 15.

Both surveys will be completed in 45 working days, according to a statement issued by the Department of Women & Child Development.

On Thursday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah launched posters for both surveys, which will be held under the aegis of the Karnataka State Women’s Development Corporation.

Transgender persons would conduct the survey of sexual minorities. It would be a mobile app-based survey held in all government-run taluk and district hospitals. The survey would be monitored by a district-level committee headed by the Deputy Commissioner and comprising representatives from organisations working for the welfare of sexual minorities.

The government has constituted committees at various levels comprising members from organisations working for former Devadasi women.
