Suspected murder & mystery death trigger alarm among locals in Guwahati

Guwahati: Two disturbing incidents have rocked Guwahati, with police recovering the body of a woman alongside drug vials in Hatigaon, and a decomposed male body in Rukminigaon.DCP Mrinal Deka, while talking to the media, said a search of the rented house in Hatigaon led to the discovery of 51 drug vials and Rs 1.47 lakh in cash. “A post-mortem examination was conducted. During the investigation, we traced one Nayan Das from the Lakhiminagar area. The investigation revealed his involvement in the suspected murder of the woman. He has been arrested and is currently being interrogated. He is also a drug addict,” Deka added.The identity of the deceased woman is yet to be ascertained. Her body was recovered after neighbours alerted the police, he said.In a separate incident, a decomposed body of a man in his 30s was found in Guwahati’s Rukminigaon area on Sunday, triggering concern among local residents. Police arrived at the site after locals reported a foul smell, leading to the recovery of the body from the location.“Preliminary assessments suggest the man might have died several days ago, given the extent of decomposition,” a police officer said.

The identity of the deceased man is also yet to be ascertained. Forensic experts and local police collected samples and evidence to determine the cause and circumstances of death. The body has been sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.
