The Andhra Pradesh government has extended the suspension of two senior IPS officers, P. Sitharama Anjaneyulu (1992 batch) and Kanthi Rana Tata (2004 batch), for another six months, citing ongoing investigations into alleged misconduct in a high-profile criminal case.
According to the orders issued on Tuesday, the suspension of both officers will now remain in force until March 8, 2026, or until further orders.
Mr. Anjaneyulu was originally suspended in September 2024 under Rule 3(1) of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, for allegedly abusing his authority in Cr. No. 90/2024 of the Ibrahimpatnam police station here.
He was accused of fast-tracking the case involving Mumbai-based actress Kadambari Narendra Kumar Jethwani without adequate scrutiny. The Ministry of Home Affairs had earlier confirmed his suspension, and a review committee subsequently recommended its periodic extension.
Similarly, Mr. Kanthi Rana Tata was suspended on charges of failing to properly supervise the same case, reportedly allowing arrests without ensuring a thorough examination of the complaint and basic investigation. His suspension was also confirmed by the Centre and extended multiple times after review by the committee constituted under AIS rules.
During the alleged incident, Mr. Anjaneyulu was the Intelligence chief of A.P. and Mr. Tata was the Police Commissioner of Vijayawada.
In its latest review meeting held on September 2, 2025, the committee noted that key documentary evidence in Cr. No. 469/2024 of the Ibrahimpatnam police station was still under scrutiny. It expressed apprehension that reinstating the officers at this stage could influence the investigation process.
Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand, issuing the orders in the name of the Governor, directed the Director General of Police to serve the suspension extension notices and ensure compliance.
