The FIFA World Cup 2026, slated to be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico, has garnered widespread interest from the football-loving populace across the globe as over a million tickets for the quadrennial spectacle have already been sold.

FIFA stated that fans from 212 nations have already booked their ticket, despite just 28 nations having sealed their berth at the showpiece event.

“As national teams across the globe compete for a place at the historic FIFA World Cup 26, I am thrilled so many football-loving fans also want to be part of this watershed event in North America," FIFA President Gianni Infantino said in a release.

“It’s an incredible response, and a wonderful sign that the biggest, most inclusive FIFA World Cup in history is capturing the imagination of supporters everywhere," the Swissman added.

And what’s more? NBA icon Luka Doncic, who moved to the LA Lakers from the Dallas Mavericks last season, will be among the dignitaries and high-profile names to be present at the opening ceremony in Los Angeles as the countdown to the biggest spectacle in the world gets underway.

“I’ve always been a football fan," Doncic said.

“Los Angeles is a great city full of amazing people who love to play and watch every sport," the Slovenian said.

“I can’t wait for the World Cup and it’s an honour to help bring people together through a sport that connects so many cultures around the globe," the 26-year-old superstar added.

Lionel Messi’s Argentina will look to defend the title they conquered in Qatar in the year 2022 as the upcoming edition of the showpiece gears up to serve as he curtain call for a generation of legendary names including Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronldo.
