The Syro-Malabar Church on Wednesday called for the death of the Kothamangalam girl to be investigated by Central agencies, citing possible links to the Panayikulam incident, which involved extremist connections.
Addressing the media, Fr. James Kokkavayalil, secretary of the Syro-Malabar Church Public Affairs Commission, said the Church viewed the matter with utmost seriousness. “The government must ensure that the case is registered under the appropriate provisions and that a thorough investigation is carried out,” he said.
Fr. Kokkavayalil also criticised the CPI(M) for its statement against Archbishop Joseph Pamplany, calling it unfortunate.
“The Archbishop had publicly thanked the BJP for their intervention in securing the release of the (Kerala) nuns arrested in Chhattisgarh,” he said. “All political parties intervened in the matter, so it is unfair to politicise it,” he added.
