T.N. CM Stalin inaugurates housing units in Chennai

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Wednesday (January 21, 2026) inaugurated 776 multi-storey tenements at Seven Wells in Chennai, constructed by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority as part of the Vada Chennai Valarchi Thittam.

These tenements were built at a cost of ₹147 crore close to the Government Stanley Medical College Hospital. The Chief Minister also inspected facilities including an anganwadi centre, urban health and wellness centre, fair price shops, Mudhalvar Padaippagam, library, gymnasium, and children’s play area.

He then distributed allotment orders for the housing units to the beneficiaries. Mr. Stalin also laid the foundation stone for the construction of 144 new housing units to be built at a cost of ₹31 crore on Wall Tax Road.

Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Minister for Public Works E.V. Velu, Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises T.M. Anbarasan, Minister for Health Ma. Subramanian, Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments P.K. Sekarbabu, and Greater Chennai Corporation Mayor R. Priya were among those present.

CM takes part in school function

Later, while speaking at the centenary celebrations of Little Flower Convent Higher Secondary School for the Deaf and Blind in Chennai, Mr. Stalin recalled his continuous visits to the institution on his birthdays since 1984.

He said that any institution completing 100 years was an achievement, but a school dedicated to children with disabilities reaching such a milestone was a matter of special pride. Across Asia, only a handful of schools have such a distinction, Mr. Stalin said and congratulated the institution on its centenary.

He recalled his visits to the school over the years in various capacities – as MLA, Mayor of Chennai, Minister for Local Administration, Deputy Chief Minister, Leader of the Opposition, and now as Chief Minister.

Mr. Stalin also commended the institution for supporting the livelihoods of young women through skill development, rehabilitation centres, and welfare initiatives for domestic workers, migrant labourers, and marginalised communities. He said the organisation’s selfless service should continue for many more centuries.

He said his government had doubled scholarships for students with disabilities, announced ₹1 lakh fellowships for 50 Ph.D. scholars with disabilities, provided free accommodation and coaching for competitive examination aspirants, and extended a monthly maintenance allowance of ₹2,000 for persons with autism.

He said Tamil Nadu’s para-athletes were excelling at national and international events with government support. He also said his government had enacted a law providing reservation for persons with disabilities in over 13,000 local bodies in the State.

Chennai Central MP Dayanidhi Maran, Thousand Lights MLA N. Ezhilan, teachers and students were among those present.
