Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Saturday (Janary 24, 2026) said that one lakh new houses would be constructed under the Kalaignar Kanavu Illam scheme at a cost of ₹3,500 crore. Replying to the Governor’s address in the Assembly, he said that work on two lakh houses was already under way.
The Chief Minister also unveiled the government’s plan to construct 2,200 km of roads under the Mudalvarin Grama Saalaigal Membattu Thittam (MGSMT) at a cost of ₹10,088 crore. He said that the government had already laid 20,484 km of roads at a cost of ₹8,911 crore.
Mr. Stalin said that a total of 1.80 lakh senior citizens, widows, farm labourers, farmers, and unmarried women above the age of 50 who had applied for monthly assistance of ₹1,000 under the Ungaludan Stalin scheme would be provided a monthly pension. He added that 33.6 lakh persons had already benefited from the monthly pension scheme.
