T.N govt allows free travel for students with 2024–25 bus passes until issuance of new passes

In view of the reopening of schools on June 2 and the subsequent reopening of State-run arts and science colleges, polytechnic colleges, and industrial training institutes, the Tamil Nadu government on Friday said arrangements have been made to enable students download new free bus passes for the academic year 2025–26 directly from the official websites of their respective schools or colleges.

Taking into account the time required for this process, the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporations were instructed to allow students to travel free of cost to their respective schools or colleges and back, by showing either the bus pass issued for the academic year 2024–25 or their ID cards bearing their photo issued by the schools or educational institutions, according to an official press release.

Further, monitoring officers have been appointed to ensure that buses operate on schedule during school opening and closing hours. All bus drivers and conductors of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporations have been instructed to stop the buses at designated bus stops and ensure the safe boarding of students, the release added.
