The Tamil Nadu Waqf Board has withdrawn its objections for the registration of lands in specific survey numbers of Waqf lands in as many as 252 cases in 24 districts. It retained its objections in 20 cases where pattas were granted to Waqf institutions at the time of settlement.
A meeting of the Board had on August 14 resolved that the lands in 252 cases did not come under its supervisory control. Following an official communication about the resolution, the Inspector General of Registration instructed sub registrars across the State that the ban imposed earlier under Section 22 A (1) (iv) of the Registration Act, 1908 was being withdrawn.
The Board earlier requested the Inspector General of Registration and sub registrars concerned not to register properties mentioned in the survey numbers of Waqf lands to prevent illegal transfer/alienation of Waqf lands. Over 500 petitions were received requesting for No Objection Certificate for registration of private properties in this regard.
On receipt of the pleas, resettlement registers, settlement A-registers, UDR A-registers and online A-registers were verified and 39 reports were received from District Collectors concerned. Nine cases were found in which pattas were granted in the name of Waqf institutions. While scrutinising pleas involving inam settlement, it was found that in 11 cases pattas were granted in the name of Waqf institutions at the time of settlement.
The Board resolved that except in those 20 cases where pattas were granted to Waqf institutions, other lands were not under its supervisory control at present. It further authorised the Board’s Chief Executive Officer to communicate it to the Inspector General Of Registration (IGR) about the withdrawal of objections in 252 cases.
The lands involved in these 252 cases are located in Ariyalur, Chengalpattu, Coimbatore, Cuddalore, Dindigul, Erode, Kallakurichi, Kancheepuram, Karur, Krishnagiri, Madurai, Perambalur, Ranipet, Salem, Thanjavur, Theni, Thoothukudi, Tiruchi, Tirunelveli, Tirupattur, Tiruppur, Tiruvallur, Vellore and Villupuram districts.
