Tamil Nadu election 2026: Regulatory markets for vegetables and arecanut, a prominent demand in Yercaud constituency

The Yercaud (ST) constituency, which covers Yercaud and Vazhapadi taluks as well as portions of Salem and Attur taluks, is predominantly a tribal area. The tribal people primarily reside in Yercaud, Neiyamalai, Aranoortumalai, Jambuthumalai, Pelapadi, and Santhumalai. It is considered an AIADMK stronghold as the party has won eight times - 1977, 1980, 1989 (as AIADMK (J)), 1991, 2001, 2011, 2016, and 2021. The AIADMK also won the by-election held in 2013. The Congress had won in 1957, 1962, and 1984, and the DMK in 1967, 1971, 1996, and 2006.
