Tamil Nadu: Former AIADMK minister KA Sengottaiyan resigns, set to join actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK)

CHENNAI: Former AIADMK minister KA Sengottaiyan, on Wednesday tendered his resignation to Assembly Speaker M. Appavu, set to join actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam in the coming days.Sengottaiyan was removed from the AIADMK on 31 October, a day after he appeared alongside AMMK leader T. T. V. Dhinakaran and AIADMK Cadres’ Rights Retrieval Kazhagam coordinator O. Panneerselvam at Pasumpoon in Ramanathapuram district.Prior to his expulsion, the party had relieved him of all organisational responsibilities after he issued a 10-day ultimatum demanding that AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami take steps to reunify the party’s fractured factions.

It may be recalled that Sengottaiyan made multiple discreet visits to Delhi, including one he described as a search for ‘spiritual solace’, to meet senior BJP leaders both before and after his expulsion. He had also publicly claimed that his attempts to unify the AIADMK were made at the behest of the BJP’s national leadership.
