Tamil Nadu govt. announces Deepavali bonus for employees of cooperative societies

In view of the upcoming Deepavali festival, the Tamil Nadu government on Thursday announced a bonus and ex gratia totaling ₹44.11 crore for 44,081 employees working in cooperative societies across the State for the year 2024-25, to be disbursed during 2025-26.

Employees of cooperative societies that come under the Payment of Bonus Act will receive a bonus of up to 20%, depending on the surplus available with each society. In societies without surplus funds, employees will be provided a 10% bonus and ex gratia to enable them to celebrate the Deepavali festival, according to an official press release.

In profit-making cooperative societies with a limited number of employees that do not fall under the Bonus Act, the employees will also receive a bonus and ex gratia of up to 20%. For non-profit-making apex and central cooperative societies that are not covered under the Bonus Act, employees will receive an ex gratia of ₹3,000, while those working in primary cooperative societies will receive ₹2,400, the release added.
