COIMBATORE: Contributions amounting to Rs 800 crore have been received so far through the ‘Namma School Namma Ooru Palli’ (NSNOP) scheme, an initiative aimed at developing infrastructure in govt schools in Tamil Nadu, said minister for school education Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi on Monday.Addressing the valedictory event of a dental camp for govt school students in Sulur block in Coimbatore district, the minister said the NSNOP scheme was launched by chief minister M K Stalin in 2022 to upgrade infrastructure at all govt schools.“So far, Rs 800 crore was contributed through CSR funds under the ‘Namma School Namma Ooru Palli’ scheme. The funds are being utilised transparently, and updates on the works done -- before and after execution -- are shared with the companies that contribute from their CSR funds.
This has built trust among contributors, and more than 400 companies have extended their support towards the development of schools,” he said.He added that buildings were being constructed in various schools with these contributions. The minister said dental camps were conducted in 80 schools in Sulur block, benefiting around 10,000 students under the NSNOP scheme. “These camps provided students with dental and gum check-ups, awareness on preventing tooth decay, methods for maintaining dental hygiene, guidance on healthy dietary habits, and necessary treatment advice,” he said.Under the chief minister’s ‘Nalam Kaakkum Stalin’ initiative, similar health camps were being conducted in rural areas to create awareness about public health and provide necessary medical support, he added.
