Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Tuesday launched the Thaayumaanavar scheme aimed at delivering ration items directly to the homes of senior citizens, differently-abled, and transgender individuals.
The initiative, described by Stalin as a pioneering effort for India, seeks to ease the difficulty faced by these groups in physically collecting ration products.
The scheme will be implemented across 34,809 ration stores in the state, benefiting over 20 lakh senior citizens and nearly 1.3 lakh differently abled people. Stalin assured that ration products will reach beneficiaries by the second Saturday and Sunday of every month.
The Cooperation Department will bear the scheme's expenses, estimated at Rs 30.16 crore. The Chief Minister also highlighted the efficient functioning of the 37,328 ration shops in Tamil Nadu, crediting them for the state having no deaths due to hunger.
Stalin emphasized that the move aims to simplify the distribution process and urged ration distribution authorities to ensure 100 per cent implementation.
“Please act kindly to the elderly and differently abled. The good name you get will be the appreciation to our Government,” he said.
