Kerala police have arrested a man from Tamil Nadu’s Madurai for allegedly assaulting a woman at her hostel in Kazhakoottam, Thiruvananthapuram. The accused, a lorry driver, had reached Kerala as part of his work. His identity has not been disclosed.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Thiruvananthapuram City) Farash T IPS, there was no primary information about the accused initially.
“We conducted a search and investigation in the area and checked the cameras installed there. That’s how we identified the accused and his vehicle. We need to question him to understand his motive,” he said.
The incident occurred on October 17, when the woman, an IT professional, was allegedly sexually assaulted while asleep in her hostel room. She woke up, resisted the attacker, and he ran away. She could not clearly see his face.
Kazhakoottam, home to the IT park Technopark, hosts people from various parts of the state and country.
DCP Farash added that police patrolling in the area is effective. “We will adopt measures to ensure all hostels, PGs, and lodges operate with proper permissions. We have instructed hostels to ensure proper security,” he said.
