Tamil Nadu Magnesite Minerals Corporation workers threaten to go on strike

SALEM: Workers of Tamil Nadu Magnesite Minerals Corporation have threatened to go on an indefinite strike if Diwali bonuses are not paid to them. There are around 400 workers engaged in the quarrying of white stone and dune stone.It was decided at a tripartite meeting last year that the contractor would pay a Diwali bonus of 8.3% to them. However, the contractor is allegedly refusing to pay Diwali bonus to the workers this year. It is also alleged that the contractor has not paid salaries for the past three months.On Tuesday, Patali Trade Union general secretary and Mettur MLA S Sadhasivam led a protest by besieging the Tamil Nadu Magnesite Company office near Guruvampatti, demanding bonus. More than a hundred people joined the protest.
