Sathyapriya and her brother Sudharshan, from Kallakavunadanur, had visited the Karuppur Police Station to report that her life was under threat.
After filing the complaint, they were on their way to meet the Assistant Commissioner to submit a petition.
On the way, Sathyapriya’s husband Vinoth Kumar and father-in-law Raman allegedly stopped Sudharshan’s two-wheeler and assaulted him.
A video of the attack has surfaced online and gone viral, showing Sudharshan being beaten by the two men. Police are investigating the incident. Further details are awaited.
In another incident from Tamil Nadu last week, a woman councillor belonging to the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) was hacked to death by her husband in Avadi district, allegedly over suspicions of an extramarital relationship.
The victim, Gomathi, was reportedly seen standing and speaking with another man near Jayaram Nagar in Thiruninravur when her husband, Stephen Raj, arrived at the scene after receiving a tip-off. An argument broke out between them, which escalated into violence. Stephen Raj allegedly pulled out a knife and attacked her repeatedly, killing her on the spot.
