An assistant manager of the transport department in Tamil Nadu’s Madurai has been suspended after he was caught on camera hitting a government bus driver with a slipper.
On Saturday afternoon, a government bus was parked near the Arapalayam round-about to allow passengers to board. The halt caused a delay in other buses entering the terminus, leading to a buildup of passengers returning to various districts like Thiruppur, Coimbatore, and Salem after the Bakrid weekend.
Assistant manager Marimuthu, reportedly angered by the delay, got into a quarrel with the driver, Ganesan. During the argument, Marimuthu removed his slipper and slapped the driver, as seen in the video that circulated widely.
In response to the widely circulated footage, transport authorities have taken action. Marimuthu has been suspended effective immediately, as per the District Zonal Transport Director’s orders. A formal inquiry has been initiated to investigate the incident.
In another incident from May 18, a police constable in Rajasthan's Jodhpur was immediately suspended after a short clip from CCTV footage showing him slapping a cafe employee during an argument over coffee went viral on social media.
The incident took place at Tau ki Tapri, a cafe near the police lines in Jodhpur.
Constable Kishan Singh, posted with the District Special Team (DST) in the city’s East district, had gone to the shop to get coffee. When the staff informed him that it was not available at the moment, he became aggressive.
