Tampa Bay Lightning reunite with playoff warrior Corey Perry in NHL deadline deal with Los Angeles Kings

The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed a familiar face who has a history of performing well in the playoffs as the team tries to improve its chances of making it through the playoffs. The team has acquired the services of forward Corey Perry from the Los Angeles Kings in a trade that was made during the NHL trade deadline.

Due to this trade, the Tampa Bay Lightning are giving the Los Angeles Kings a second-round draft pick in the 2028 NHL Entry Draft. In return, the team will pay half of the salary of the 39-year-old forward.Corey Perry has managed to score 11 goals and has accumulated 28 points in 50 games for the Los Angeles Kings this season. The team will be using the forward, who will be playing in the bottom-six forward position, to help the team's offense and provide grit and postseason experience.

He played for the Tampa Bay Lightning for the last two seasons, during which the team made it to the Stanley Cup Final in the 2022 playoffs.

When I talked to Corey, he was really, really excited about coming back to this group and the opportunity we have here. He makes our team better. This comes at a critical juncture for the Lightning, who have been dealing with injuries to several of their forward corps, including Nick Paul, Gage Goncalves, and Dominic James. Corey Perry’s ability to contribute to the team in several roles will be beneficial to the Lightning.Before the trade, Perry had apparently told the Kings he wanted to remain with the team and work out a contract extension after the season.
