Colva: A major disaster was averted at Paddi, Canacona, on Tuesday afternoon after a tanker carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) overturned on the road, triggering an emergency response from fire services and police.
Fire tenders from Margao, Cuncolim and Canacona rushed to the scene to prevent any explosion. Police cordoned off the entire stretch and diverted traffic. Margao fire services stated that a distress call was received at 1.30pm, following which personnel were dispatched to the site. Preliminary information suggests that the driver of the loaded tanker lost control of the vehicle, causing it to topple onto its side. The tanker was reportedly en route from Mangaluru to Goa, with its final destination being Verna. Fire officials stated that technical experts from the company arrived at the scene to assess the situation.
After inspection, they recommended that the LPG be safely transferred to another tanker to eliminate any risk. A replacement tanker was dispatched from Mangaluru.Authorities confirmed that the driver escaped unharmed.
